PC Patch
The Need for Speed The Run PC patch
contains both bug fixes and adds new functionality. Below is a list of
all updates in the patch:
General:
- 30 FPS cap is disabled when v-sync is set to OFF in advanced display settings
- Miscellaneous fixes for gamepad and peripheral support
- Tweaked reset behavior for a number of tracks in The Run where resets seemed too close to the main race route
Single Player:
- When players go off track, they will be reset back onto the track instead of at the last checkpoint. Crashes will still result in a reset to the last checkpoint.
- Fixed issue where Autolog split time HUD would sometimes disappear after a vehicle reset
Challenge Series:
– Updated car images will now be displayed in Challenge Series loading screen
Multiplayer:
- Added Quick Match option from multiplayer menu
– Players now have the option to mute VOIP of other players in multiplayer sessions
– Reduced unrealistic behaviors when multiplayer opponents drive off-road or collide with world objects
– Fixed issue where sometimes icons wouldn’t display for playgroup members in the intermission screen
– Animated recently completed solo and group objectives in the intermission screen
– Display active objectives in the pre-race loading screen
– Tabs will now auto-cycle during the intermission screen, manually tabbing between screens will disable the auto cycling.
– Countdown timers in MP will flash orange in the last 5 seconds
- Will still display session rewards for players that finish the last race in a session after all other players have left the session.
- Hide the empty race results and session standing tabs in the intermission screen when joining a race in progress
Autolog:
Gallery – Fix to extend scroll bar for entire length of gallery
News – Fixed alignment of news list and top of news image
Friends - Now displays whether a friend is online, joinable or offline in player badge
Friends – Added option to join a friend’s multiplayer session from the friends list, if friend is in a joinable session.
Photo – Now displays the proper error message when a photo upload fails due to being out of space.

Reviewed by: CNET Staff on November 09, 2008Two years after the phenomenal success of Halo for the Xbox, Microsoft has finally ported this first-person alien shooter to Windows--just in time to promote the release of Halo 2 for Xbox. In Halo, you control the Master Chief, an enhanced soldier awakened from cryogenic sleep to save humankind from a nasty group of aliens called the Covenant. Although the PC version only adds a few maps and loses the cooperative mode, the impressive graphics, exciting gameplay, and variety of weapons and vehicles make Halo worth a try for any fans of first-person shooters.The demo features two vehicles, a substantive single-player mission, and one multiplayer map that supports up to 16 players on the GameSpy network. Both enemy and friendly intelligence are realistic, and a unique (for two years ago) defense system with rechargeable shields allows for intense firefights that don't permanently cripple the Master Chief. Once learned, the mouse-steering system allows for some fancy driving. The environments look awesome, and a subtle soundtrack enhances the experience. Be warned that the listed system requirements are a bare minimum. Adjusting video settings may be necessary to improve performance on some systems.

BrothersoftEditor: Halo is set several centuries in the future. After the development of the "Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine", the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) begins a program of interstellar travel and planetary colonization. Over 800 planets are colonized in 200 years, categorized as "Inner Colonies" and "Outer Colonies". The Inner Colonies, being closer to EARTH, are more developed and politically stable. The Outer Colonies were reachable after the breakthrough of the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine. Due to the older planets' need for the raw materials and supplies the Outer Colonies provide, tensions and outright civil war foments Between the colonies and the UNSC. The UNSC creates the Spartan-II Project in order to covertly suppress these rebellions. Twenty-seven years before the events of the main game trilogy, UNSC communication with the Colony Harvest is lost, and the ship sent to investigate is destroyed by the Covenant, a theocratic collective of aliens bent on exterminating humanity.The Covenant leadership has declared humanity to be an affront to their gods, the Forerunner. By 2535, almost all of the Outer Colonies have been destroyed by the Covenant; in response, the UNSC vigorously enforces the "Cole Protocol", destroying material and ships that might lead the Covenant to Earth. The Covenant possesses a significant technological advantage, and proves nearly impossible for the UNSC to defeat in space engagements. These events are only alluded to in the video games, but their full descriptions are outlined in the novels Halo: The Fall of Reach and Contact Harvest, as well as in the real-time strategy game Halo Wars.
